About the Journal
A green environment is an environment in which there are still various plants and plants or trees so that a feeling of a green and fresh environment is created. The existence of trees and plants is important for supplying oxygen and reducing pollution. More broadly, to reduce the effects of global warming. Garbage is a problem that seems to be common among people and has even become a problem all over the world. Almost all corners of the world have problems with waste, where every day the pile of garbage continues to increase. However, these wastes are very difficult to decompose. Such things really need to be taken into account, because they can have a negative impact on the state of the green environment. Because of this, many countries are starting to compete for waste management programs to minimize this problem.
The level of disaster risk in an area can be seen from the level of environmental damage that occurs in the area. Environmental damage can occur due to the accumulation of waste that cannot be completely recycled. Therefore, public awareness is needed so as not to increase environmental damage due to waste. Waste management with the 3R concept (reuse, recycle and reduce) can be used as a solution to save the environment in a very simple and inexpensive way. Community-based waste management with the 3R concept aims to reduce waste from its source, reduce environmental pollution, provide benefits to the community, and can change people's behaviour toward waste. The application of 3R concept can be applied by the community every day. This concept has the core, namely: (i) Reuse (reusing waste that can still be used or can have other functions); (ii) Recycle (reprocessing waste or recycling into a product or goods that can be useful); and (iii) Reduce (reducing everything that causes or creates waste). Some of the benefits of implementing the 3R system are: (i) reducing the amount of organic waste scattered around the house; ii) assisting in the early and rapid disposal of waste; (iii) Savings in the cost of transporting waste to the Final Disposal Site (FDS); (iv) Reducing the need for land for Final Disposal Sites (FDS); (v) Protecting the environment from damage and disturbance in the form of unpleasant odors, blockage of sewers, floods, and others; and (vi) Application of the 3R system in municipal waste management.
Efforts to preserve the environment are our collective responsibility. In this case, efforts to protect the environment are not only the responsibility of the government but also the joint responsibility of the government and society. In practice, the government has issued several policies that can be used as legal cover for government officials and the public in environmental conservation efforts. Based on the above, Study Center for Population and Environment, Institute for Research and Community Service, Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya, as a red and white campus has the vision and mission of the campus to preserve the green environment. On this basis, the Guest Lecture – Call for Opinion with the theme “Green Environment related to Reuse, Recycle and Reduce from Waste” is needed as an effort to raise awareness of the academic community in preserving the environment.
The aims and objectives of this activity are as follows:
- Increasing the awareness of the academic community within the scope of Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) Surabaya to preserve the environment.
- To equip the academic community in implementing the outcome-based Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
- This Guest Lecture activity is one of the realizations of the MOU between Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) Surabaya and the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST), Taiwan.
- This Guest Lecture activity is to initiate research collaboration on "Green Environment related to Reuse, Recycle and Reduce from Waste" between Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) Surabaya and the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST), Taiwan.
- Raising citations, grant terms, disseminating ideas and attracting writers for the journal of Untag Surabaya.
