Abstract

Arek culture is a cultural subculture of East Javanese culture. Like the arek culture in the film Yowis Ben 3. The film Yowis Ben 3 tells the story of four band members from Malang, East Java. While in the midst of his career success, Bayu (Bayu Skak) experiences anxiety because one of his band members will continue his education abroad. In addition, the manager of his band, Cak Jon, left Yowis Ben and chose to pursue his love for Ms. Rini. In the midst of a complicated problem, Bayu's ex-lover, Asih (Cut Meyriska) arrives and Bayu is secretly close to his ex without Bayu's current girlfriend Asih (Anya Geraldine) knowing. This film as a whole displays the culture of East Java, including the arek culture. all players use Javanese as their everyday language in this film, which is included in the form of showing a culture in the film. The purpose of this study is to find out how the representation of Arek culture in the film Yowis Ben 3. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with textual discourse analysis which is divided into 2, namely grammatical aspects and lexical aspects to analyze the scenes in this film. Data collection techniques through observation, documentation, and online data tracing. The result of this study is to show a representation of the type of cultural representation, where in the scene a sign appears indicating the arek culture which is a subculture of culture from East Java.
