Abstract

The film "Birds Of Prey" is a film that contains a message of gender equality to the point of eliciting various receptions from the audience, some of which are students of Communication Studies at the University of 17 August 1945, Surabaya. The aim of this research is to know how’s the reception about gender equality in the film “Birds Of Prey” among communication science students. In this study, the researcher uses Stuart Hall's Reception Theory and the method used by the researcher is descriptive qualitative with data obtained through interviews. At the data analysis technique stage, the researcher carried out the encoding stage in the film "Birds Of Prey" and then carried out the decoding stage from the results of the interview. Based on the data obtained by the researchers, it was concluded that 4 sources occupy the position of Dominant Hegemony and have the reception that the message of gender equality in the Birds Of Prey film shows how women have the same power and can survive without the help of men and show how they are independent. to men and show that they are equal to men.
