Abstract

The phenomenon of Ageism is one of the issues that is currently happening related to age, many do not understand and do not realize that negative views about a certain age are a form of discrimination. Ageism can basically occur and affect all age groups, but in people's lives it shows that the elderly are at a higher risk of experiencing treatment and its negative impacts. One of the films that represents the phenomenon of ageism is "Sweet 20", so the researcher makes the film as the object of research. This research uses semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes model. Through denotations, connotations, and myths in Bartes' theory, researchers can understand the meaning of ageism in the Sweet 20 film. The results of the research show that there are various kinds of behavior that are interpreted as acts of ageism towards the elderly and young people.
