Abstract

The Great Indian Kitchen is a film with the theme of women's struggles in the domestic sphere. The struggle of women in the domestic sphere is identical to existentialist feminism. Researchers say that the film The Great Indian Kitchen contains existentialist feminism ideology. The purpose of this research is to reveal the representation of existentialist feminism in the film The Great Indian Kitchen. This research is a qualitative research and uses a critical paradigm and uses the John Fiske television codes method which consists of the level of reality, the level of representation, and the level of ideology. The results of this study indicate that the representation of existentialist feminism in the film The Great Indian Kitchen is dominant in dialogue and action codes. Dialogues and actions that represent existentialist feminism include, women can work, women take social transformation actions, and women refuse to be others.
