Abstract

The variety of ethnicities in Indonesia also brings a variety of views, and stereotypes from other tribes. What Indonesia has regarding ethnic diversity is a gift but also has a side to the existence of such diversity. A problem arises when their personal ethnic identity is used as a picture in a particular situation and environment. The combination of two ethnicities that have different cultural backgrounds, namely the Javanese ethnicity of Surabaya and the Madurese ethnicity in carrying out joint activities in the Wisanggeni Grab Community in Surabaya. The objectives of this study include: knowing the Communication Patterns Between Online Ojek Drivers of Javanese Ethnicity and Madurese Ethnicity in the Wisanggeni Grab Community in Surabaya. Informants have been divided into categories. The data analysis technique uses Miles and Huberman's interactive model. There are several obstacles that arise in the process of intercultural communication among online motorcycle taxi drivers of the Wisanggeni Grab Surabaya community itself such as linguistic barriers, stereotypes, prejudices, and uncertainties. In addition to obstacles, the communication process also has several supporting factors that support smooth communication. These factors include a sense of brotherhood and solidarity and the existence of cultural similarities between the Javanese and Madurese ethnicities.
