Abstract

Women are always associated with beauty standards. The standard of beauty at this time is
considered by society not to make women qualified because it only focuses on outward
appearance. Like the news article entitled “My Message to Younger Sisters on Beauty
Standards”. In this case, a young girl is urged to follow the age of beauty and current trends.
The article illustrates that today's teenagers are already concerned about facial care and are
starting to focus on beauty standards that exist in Indonesia. This is a qualitative research with
a review of Foucault's critical discourse analysis method, in the perspective of critical
discourse analysis from the side of Alba-Juez (2009). The results of this media discourse want
women not to follow the standardization of ideal beauty. As a result, women solve their body
problems through excessive means. Magdalene's desire to preach in the context of this beauty
standard is quite wise. However, there needs to be a disclaimer to emphasize that this beauty
standard is not to be imitated. It can be imitated, but with reasonable limits
